South Hills pools prep for opening
As covid restrictions are lifted and the weather heats up, South Hills residents will have a few options to cool off.
After being closed for two years for renovations, the Brentwood Pool will be open this year. Located at Brentwood Park, it will open at 11 a.m. on May 29 and Brentwood manager George Zboyovsky said “a huge grand opening” is planned for that day.
Nearly $4 million in renovations garnered a giant double-barrel slide, splash features and a zero entry, meaning it will gradually slope to transition from land to water without steps. Additionally, the pool is now heated.
“We will have pool chairs out and available for patrons to use to soak up the sun,” Zboyovsky said. “We plan on following current CDC protocols regarding the pool. The biggest of these will be the current capacity limits of 75%.”
Because of the capacity limits, Brentwood Pool is only open to residents, though they may bring nonresident guests.
Zboyovsky anticipates the pool being open to residents and nonresidents next year.
In Baldwin Borough, the pool at Elm Leaf Park opens for the season at noon May 29, and both residents and nonresidents are welcome. Due to covid restrictions, the showers will be closed for the 2021 season and guests must bring their own chairs.
The borough will not offer swim lessons this season and is currently not renting the pool for private parties. While season pass registration is available online, payment must be made in person. The splash pad is closed permanently.
Whitehall’s swimming pool will be closed this year and next for renovations.
“It is 55 years old and structurally unsound,” said borough manager Jim Leventry. “Council has already approved the design of a new pool, that hopefully will be completed by May of 2023. The old pool will be demolished this summer.”
Leventry said that bids for the demo will be opened June 29 and that he expects work to begin in early August.
Information on the opening of South Park Wave Pool was unavailable at press time.
