South Hills student achievements for the week of May 27, 2025
Thomas Jefferson High School took first place at the Allegheny County Envirothon on April 25, marking its third consecutive win. The team will advance to represent Allegheny County at the Pennsylvania Envirothon in Johnstown.
Allegheny County Conservation District hosted 132 high school students from nine school districts at the annual competition at Boyce Park in Monroeville.
The winning team from Thomas Jefferson High School includes Lukeman El-Hajj, Hunter Houk, Aislin Majoris, Kamryn Mull and Reagan Sanderson, led by teachers Dan Giger and Brian McClain. Every winning student received a scholarship for academic pursuits following high school funded with support from event sponsors.
The following students made the dean’s list at Thiel College for the spring 2025 semester: Jordan Fiorentini, Madison Fiorentini, Bria Ringloff, Madeleine White and Alexys Wagner.

Katelynn Handa, a junior acting major at Slippery Rock University, was a carpenter for the university’s production of “The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time” in April.

Bailey Neville was named to the dean’s list for sthe pring 2025 semester at the University of the Cumberlands.

Chelsea Dowhy received a $20,000 scholarship from the KFC Foundation and is pursuing a five-year accelerated master’s program in speech-language pathology at Duquesne University. She has worked at KFC since age 15.

Richa Sharma, Brittany Naffin, Jessica Goller, Mairead Roddy, Madison Madole and John Lohry made the president’s list at Southern New Hampshire University for the spring 2025 semester.
Brandon Norman, Maria Pawlos and Dawn Matthews were named to the dean’s list.

Lucas Kirk earned a bachelor of science degree in accounting at Alvernia University on May 10.

Darby Sandrock made the dean’s list at Belmont University for the spring 2025 semester.

Penn State University students Jonathan Fritz and Noble Dresser were elected to membership into The Honor Society of Phi Kappa Phi, the nation’s oldest and most selective collegiate honor society for all academic disciplines.

Samuel Buenaventura made the dean’s list at Emerson College for the fall 2024 semester. He is majoring in media arts production and is a member of the class of 2028.

Zachary Auel was awarded the Western Golf Association’s Chick Evans Scholarship, a full housing and tuition college scholarship for golf caddies. He is a caddy at South Hills Country Club and attended Baldwin High School.
