A beautification project in Brentwood is underway.

Crews from Monaca-based CTM Construction began excavating Brownsville Road on Monday as part of a three-phase $321,000 streetscape initiative.

The borough received a $155,855 Pennsylvania Commonwealth Financing Authority grant for the project in the central business district.

This is part of Brentwood’s continual boroughwide beautification process, Borough Manager George Zboyovsky said . “The coolest additions with this project will be the stamped, dyed concrete crosswalks that will make this area pop. In addition, new sidewalks and trees will be included, as well as the removal of parking meters that will be replaced by parking kiosks spaced throughout the area.”

CTM Construction President Chris Samaras said the project would be completed by the end of the year, and possibly in 60 days.

“It’s a decent-sized job,” Samaras said. “It’s going to make it look a lot nicer, especially with the trees and all that.”

Construction is expected to take place between 7 a.m. and 5 p.m. weekdays.

“We have a two-block detour around the project area while the Brownsville Road crosswalks are being installed,” Zboyovsky said. “At the same time, we are keeping one end of the project area open to business traffic and parking.”

Phase one

Phase one of the project involves a sidewalk cutout and installation on the east side of Brownsville Road, according to borough documents.

Crosswalk s would be installed at Munsey Avenue, Pointview Road and Marylea Avenue intersections, as well as a bump-out at Pointview Road.

Vehicles headed northbound on Brownsville Road would be detoured at Marylea Avenue to Pary and Hillson avenues.

Motorists headed south would be detoured at Hillson Avenue to Pary and Marylea avenues.

Phase two

Phase two involves installing a crosswalk along Park Drive and at the intersection of Brownsville Road at Park Drive.

Vehicles will be detoured north on Brownsville Road at Marylea Avenue to Pary Avenue to Hillson Avenue.

Southbound motorists would be detoured onto Hillson Avenue to Pary and Marylea avenues.

Motorists needing to enter the park such as school teachers or library personnel can do so via the fire company parking lot.

Phase three

Phase three involves installing crosswalks at Marylea and Hillson avenues.

This phase is expected to begin Oct. 26 with Brownsville Road reopened to traffic, according to borough documents.

Zboyovsky said the borough is in the process of constructing a new municipal complex, and the beautification project should help current businesses and attract future development.

“Brentwood is investing millions of dollars in itself and hopes that others see this and come to see what Brentwood is all about and climb on board and be a part of this growth,” Zboyovsky said.

CTM Construction has done several projects in Brentwood including sidewalk improvements the last three years.

“They know the borough and what our high expectations are regarding quality of work as well as relationships with the residents,” Zboyovsky said. “As such, they come prepared to ensure the residents are not impacted or inconvenienced when they are doing work in the borough.”
