West Jefferson Hills School District to go virtual through Wednesday because of covid cases
West Jefferson Hills School District officials announced all students will learn online the next few days as a result of six positive cases reported Saturday.
Classes will be virtual through at least Wednesday.
A letter sent to parents over the weekend says the cases spread over four buildings and puts the district’s number of cases over the past 14 days at 10. Cases included two at Gill Hall, four at Jefferson Intermediate and four at the middle school.
Officials said McClellan needs only one more case for it to be required to temporarily close.
“We really wanted to make it to the holiday break and keep in-person instruction intact as long as possible,” Superintendent Michael Ghilani wrote. “As we know this is the best thing for learning and mental health. However, due to the circumstances, I feel the prudent decision is to put all students on virtual schedule this week.”
All students are expected to log on and participate in all of their classes during the closure.
“The buildings will be open for pickups of emergency items that are absolutely needed over the break, but we would like to avoid large scale pickups,” Ghilani wrote. “We realize the challenges that many of our students and families are facing at this time of year. The mental health of our students is of great concern.”
The letter also stated chill rooms in all buildings will be open next week, and school counselors and social workers will be available for virtual meetings.
Free meals will be available from 11 a.m. to noon at all schools except Jefferson Hills Intermediate.
Families that plan to puck up lunch and breakfast can do so at their schools.
The Calvary Chapel Church will be a pickup location for those in West Elizabeth and Floreffe area from noon to 1 p.m.
Multiple lunch packs will be available Dec. 23 and 30 because there will be no meals Christmas Eve, Christmas Day, New Year’s Eve and New Year’s Day.
