Woman arrested after kids injured in car crash in Elizabeth Township

A woman was arrested and two children were taken to the hospital after a crash in Elizabeth Township on Thursday.

The crash took place in the 800 block of McKeesport Road, Elizabeth Township police told Tribune-Review news partner WPXI.

Police said they took the driver, Kristi Assenti, into custody on suspicion of driving under the influence of narcotics and alcohol.

Two children, ages 4 and 8, were in the car and unsecured at the time of the crash, police said.

The 8-year-old was in the passenger seat and struck the front windshield in the crash, WPXI reported. The 4-year-old struck the back of the front passenger seat.

Both children were taken in stable condition to Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh with head injuries, WPXI reported.

Police said Assenti is the mother of the children. Police said charges are pending.
