A South Fayette woman died early Friday from injuries suffered when a tree branch fell on her in an Upper St. Clair park, officials said.

Kara A. Leo, 40, was hiking with her husband Thursday evening in Boyce Mayview Park, according to officials and the Allegheny County Medical Examiner.

The couple was on the Morton Ravine Trail when they were hit by a falling tree branch, officials said. Leo died from her injuries at a hospital hours later. The man was seriously injured.

Social media posts indicate Leo was a pastry chef and owner of Kara’s Kakes in Mt. Lebanon. Its website posted a note that reads: “Kara Kakes is not taking orders at this time. For urgent inquiries, contact us through the Contacts page or visit GoFundMe.”

An online fundraising account has been set up for the family.

WDVE Morning Show co-host Randy Baumann tweeted his condolences.

“She was an extremely talented baker,” Baumann wrote. ” I talked about her bakery many times on the air as being my favorite in town. She never wasn’t smiling or happy.”

The GoFundMe site described Leo as a “wife to her fantastic husband and a mother to 2 beautiful boys. Kara also was a great baker owning a little bake shop that specialized in nut free cakes. Kara’s boys are going to need a lot of love, care, and support without their wonderful mother there by their side anymore. In lieu of flowers and etc., any donation is welcome to help Kara’s boys revamp their lives.”
