Work to repair the bridge carrying traffic over the Parkway West will begin Friday evening and require a portion of the inbound lanes to be shut down overnight through the middle of September, PennDOT announced.

The bridge was damaged Feb. 2 when a truck crashed into the support structure for the bridge carrying traffic from Rosslyn Road onto the inbound lanes of the Parkway West. The crash happened about a mile west of Exit 65 on Interstate 376.

The bridge has been closed since the crash while PennDOT engineers worked on a design for the repairs, according to a spokesman for the transportation agency.

The inbound lanes will be closed from the bridge to the I-79 interchange from 9 p.m. to 6 a.m. Sundays through Thursdays and from 9 p.m. to 10 a.m. on Friday and Saturday nights.

The outbound lanes of the Parkway West will not be affected by the project.

No work is scheduled during the Labor Day weekend.

Following is the posted detour around the construction site:

Eastbound

• From eastbound (inbound) I-376, motorists will exit I-376 at the I-79 south (Exit 64A) interchange towards Washington.

• Follow I-79 south to the Carnegie (Exit 57) interchange off-ramp.

• At the end of the off-ramp, turn left onto West Main Street.

• West Main Street becomes Mansfield Boulevard.

• Turn right onto Chestnut Street.

• Turn left onto Academy Street.

• Take the ramp to East 376 toward Pittsburgh.

Northbound

• From northbound I-79, take the Carnegie (Exit 57) off-ramp.

• Turn right onto West Main Street.

• West Main Street becomes Mansfield Boulevard.

• Turn right onto Chestnut Street.

• Turn left onto Academy Street.
