Norah Carter

Norah Carter, a senior at Pine Richland High School, was recently presented with the Diamond Clover Award at the Pennsylvania 4-H State Leadership Conference. The Diamond Clover Award is the highest youth award on the achievement ladder in 4-H and requires youth members to complete a variety of projects and attend events at the county, state and national levels. Norah has been a member of 4-H for the last 10 years. She has served as vice president of the North Ridge Riders equestrian club, president of the Allegheny County Youth Council and vice president of operations for the Pennsylvania 4-H State Council. During her time in 4-H, she completed horse, horseless, leadership, public speaking, science of agriculture and civic engagement projects. She was awarded the McAllister Outstanding Equine Member Award in Pennsylvania in 2021. The Diamond Clover Award culminates in a two-year community service project. Norah’s service project consisted of developing and facilitating positive mental health groups focusing on resilience and mindfulness. She facilitated these six sessions groups for previously incarcerated teens in Philadelphia at a high risk of recidivism and a younger group of tweens from an inner-city charter school in Pittsburgh. She concentrated on reducing their stress, particularly as it related to school, the pandemic, parental loss of income and their feelings surrounding political upheaval and racism. Norah’s Diamond Clover service project was recognized with an Invisalign Changemakers Award in the Civil Rights category in 2021. She plans to major in political science and public health and is interested in disability advocacy. She is the daughter of Joe and Rebecca Carter of Pine.
