Hampton Community Library’s summer reading program is in progress and ends Aug. 10.
Register for in-person programs at the library and start reading to earn raffle tickets for prizes. Please note there are no children’s programs Fourth of July week.
Events and programs at the library include:
• Saturday story time, 11-11:45 a.m. July 13, featuring stories, rhymes and songs. The program is for children ages 3 and up, but all are welcome.
• “Happy Birthday, Harry!” is scheduled from 1:30 to 2:30 p.m. July 30, for children ages 5 to 10. Celebrate Harry Potter’s birthday with fun the Hogwarts way. Registration is required.
• Celebrate the dog days of summer with Dog-Man, 1:30 to 2:30 p.m. Aug. 6, for children ages 5 to 8. Join Dog-Man and Cat-Kid as they prove a good deed can outdo evil doers. Registration is required.
• Dragons Bring Adventure, 1:30 to 2:30 p.m. Thursdays, for children ages 7 to 11. Each month will feature a different dragon theme: “Wings of Fire” on July 11, 18 and 25, and “How to Train Your Dragon” on Aug. 1 and 8. Registration is appreciated.
• Check Mate: a summer chess club, 10 a.m. to noon Mondays through Aug. 5, for children ages 5 to 12. All skill levels are welcome. Please register when you come to play.
• Adventures in Storytime, 10:30 a.m. Tuesdays and Thursdays through Aug. 8, for families and abilities of all ages. Sing, rhyme and listen to stories. Please note that the program will be the same each day.
• Party at the Pavilion: stories and play time, 11:30 a.m. Tuesdays and Thursdays through Aug. 8 rain or shine, at the Grubbs Pavilion in Hampton Community Park. Enjoy stories, songs, music, bubbles and time with a parachute. The program, for families and abilities of all ages, runs approximately 30 to 45 minutes and is the same program each day. Inclement weather may move program inside without the parachute.
• All Abilities Club, 10:30 to 11:15 a.m. July 12 and 1:30 to 2:15 p.m. July 23, for adults with intellectual/developmental disabilities and their caregivers. Featured are literacy activities, crafts and more.
• Adventures in Scrapbooking, 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. July 15. Maria Golio from Creative Memories will share, teach and support fellow scrapbookers and their goals. No registration is required.
• Adventures in Origami, 1 to 3 p.m. July 16 and Aug. 20, for participants ages 16 and older. Join Mary Garnett as she teaches one-on-one instruction on how to create a butterfly. Examples of Mary’s creations are displayed in the library. Registration is limited.
• Card Club, 1 to 3:30 p.m. Wednesdays.
• Murder by the Book: A Mystery Book Discussion, 6:30 p.m. Wednesdays at Grubbs Pavilion during the summer. Anyone who is interested in great reads is invited to join. Call the library at 412-684-1098 to request a copy of each month’s selection. For July 17, the book is “The Name of the Rose” by Umberto Eco.
• Betty’s Book Buzz Discussion Group, 1 p.m. Fridays. Anyone who is interested in great conversations and good reads is invited to join. Contact the library at 412-684-1098 to request a copy of each month’s selection. For July 19, the book is “The Broken Girls” by Simone St. James.
Summer Hours extend through Labor Day: 9:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. Monday and Friday, 9:30 a.m. to 7:30 p.m. Tuesday and Thursday, 11:30 a.m. to 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, and 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday.
The Library will be closed for Community Day, July 3, and the following day, as well as on Labor Day weekend, Aug. 31 through Sept. 2.
