Teen charged with homicide in connection with deadly Wilkinsburg shooting
County police arrested a teen Tuesday in connection with the killing of a man in Wilkinsburg two days prior, according to Allegheny County homicide detectives.
Devin Lee Martin, 16, of Pittsburgh, is charged with homicide in the death of 37-year-old Cornell Lee.
Police initially responded to a call for shots fired near Woodlawn Avenue about 9:30 p.m. Sunday, which was followed by a call for a man who was shot on Franklin Avenue, according to a criminal complaint.
On Franklin, police said they found a damaged white station wagon, broken glass, and shell casings. A call soon after alerted investigators to a man who’d been brought to UPMC Shadyside with a gunshot wound to his head, according to the complaint. He was pronounced at the hospital.
A witness told Allegheny County police they saw a boy they identified as Martin standing on Franklin Avenue when a brown Nissan pulled up, according to the complaint. The witness said Martin walked to the passenger side and pointed a handgun at the driver and the passenger.
The witness said another unidentified suspect ran up to the driver’s side door of the Nissan and began shooting. They also said they heard Martin say, “give me the weed or I’ll kill you,” according to the complaint. Martin then allegedly ran to the driver’s side and took a bag of marijuana and a handgun from Lee’s pockets, police said.
The witness picked Martin out of a police photo array, investigators said.
Martin, a student at Westinghouse Academy, is also charged with aggravated assault, robbery, conspiracy and illegal possession of a firearm.
Court records indicate he was not in custody as of Tuesday afternoon.
