Teen faces gun charges after police say he fled Crafton Heights shooting scene
A teenager is facing gun charges after police said they saw him running from a fatal shooting scene in Pittsburgh’s Crafton Heights neighborhood.
Jamar Porch, 18, of Pittsburgh, was charged with carrying a loaded weapon, carrying a firearm without a license and receiving stolen property, police said.
Porch has not been charged — nor has he been identified as a suspect — in the shooting that killed 18-year-old Isiah Brewer.
At 3:45 p.m. Monday, police responded to the intersection of Middletown Road and Runnymede Street for reports of a shooting. Brewer had multiple gunshot wounds to his chest and torso, police said. He died at a localhospital.
Officers pursued a car fleeing the scene and stopped it near the West End Circle, police said. Four people were inside, including a man suffering a gunshot wound to one of his legs. He was taken to a hospital, and the three other people were taken to police headquarters for questioning.
While officers were at the shooting scene, a neighbor told police her camera picked up Porch at the scene and later running down Middletown Road toward Steuben Street, according to a criminal complaint.
Porch ignored police commands to stop, the complaint said. An officer tackled Porch and found a Glock 26 in his bag, the complaint said. Investigators said the gun had a 15-round magazine with one bullet in the chamber, and two rounds were missing from the magazine.
During questioning, Porch said he had the gun to “defend himself,” the complaint said. The gun was reported stolen in 2023, the complaint said.
Porch was denied bail and is being held in the Allegheny County Jail. A preliminary hearing is scheduled for July 8 in Pittsburgh Municipal Court.
No charges have been filed in Brewer’s homicide.
