The EQT Pittsburgh 10 Miler moves to virtual format

Runners can lace up for a virtual race with this year’s EQT Pittsburgh 10 Miler.

The annual race typically draws nearly 4,000 runners at its start in Station Square, officials said. But with covid-19 restrictions prohibiting large crowds, the race is moving to a virtual platform this year.

Participants can run wherever and whenever they choose during the month of November. Runners can opt for outdoor trails, neighborhood streets, or treadmills.

The race typically celebrates Pittsburgh’s heritage. Each mile showcases a unique Pittsburgh feature, like Mister Rogers or Pittsburgh sports teams. Though participants won’t get to run the traditionally Pittsburgh-themed course this year, they’ll still get a taste of the city.

Each runner will receive a Pittsburgh Celebration Box, complete with Pittsburgh-themed treats like a pickle pin from Heinz History Center, a mini Heinz ketchup bottle, a postcard from Kennywood, and an Eat’n Park Smiley Cookie sticker.

Runners will also get a shirt, medal, and finish line kit.

In addition to the traditional Pittsburgh 10 Miler Race, this year will mark the first year of the EQT Kids Virtual 10. Kids can complete 10 Pittsburgh-themed fitness activities throughout November. Participants will receive a medal and a miniature version of the Pittsburgh Celebration Box.

The race, sponsored by P3R, has garnered 2,500 runners from 34 states and five countries — as well as over 100 kids partaking in the EQT Kids Virtual 10.

Participants can register online throughout November. Registration for the virtual 10 Miler is $50 and registration for the Kids Virtual 10 race is $15.
