The Peach Truck is coming to Pittsburgh this summer — and with it, a plethora of fresh, handpicked peaches.
Based out of Nashville, Tenn., The Peach Truck usually stops at various locations around the country, said Joanna Mariani, vice president of marketing.
It will be parked in the Pittsburgh area until the end of August, she said, offering peaches at various locations around the city. It arrived on May 23.
“Pittsburgh is actually one of our largest markets,” Mariani said. “That’s one of the reasons we decided to stay in Pittsburgh all summer long and not just make stops.”
Because the truck is so big at 26 feet long, she said it’s hard to park in Downtown Pittsburgh, so look for it in the suburbs and city neighborhoods. Locations will have either a truck or van displaying The Peach Truck logo, with a bright orange tent outside, she said.
To find a location nearby, customers should visit its website at thepeachtruck.com. Patrons can order their peaches ahead of time for convenience.
The Peach Truck will be at locations like the Strip District, the Waterfront Shopping Mall, Monroeville Mall, Westmoreland Mall, the Galleria at Pittsburgh Mills, the Mall at Robinson, UPMC Events Center, the Tanger Outlets Pittsburgh and more.
Mariani said The Peach Truck tries to have as many walk-up items as it can. There are also home delivery options available, she said.
Though none of the peaches are sourced from Pennsylvania, all of them are sourced from the United States, according to Mariani.
Last year, 90% of peach crops were lost due to weather, according to Mariani. Similar to wine, she said the soil and climate are very important for growing peaches.
“It was one of the worst years for peaches,” she said.
Because there are more available this year, Mariani said The Peach Truck is able to charge a lower price per pound.
Customers can get a 12-pound box for $45, two 12-pound boxes for $43 each or three or more 12-pound boxes for $38 each. Three-pound bags are also available for $14.
Mariani said she has three kids, and her family is able to go through 12 pounds of peaches in less than a week.
If someone is baking a pie and also planning on eating a few, she recommended getting a 12-pound box.
