• Macy’s to close more stores. What’s left in the Pittsburgh region?
Macy’s will close 150 stores over the next three years and 50 by the end of 2024, the department store said after posting a fourth quarter loss and declining sales.
• Summer Lee pulls out of event amid mounting criticism
Lee, a freshman House member and progressive, was scheduled to speak this weekend at the Council on American-Islamic Relations’ statewide annual banquet in Philadelphia.
The speaker list had drawn criticism first from her political opponents and then from Jewish lawmakers like state Rep. Dan Frankel, D-Squirrel Hill, and Gov. Josh Shapiro.
• What is Wendy’s doing with surge pricing?
That means the price of burgers, fries, chicken nuggets and Wendy’s signature Frosty milkshakes could fluctuate depending on what time of day they are ordered.
Many companies have used surge pricing, most notably ride-hailing giant Uber, which fluctuates the cost of a ride based on demand changes during rush hour or bad weather.
• U.S. Steel slapped with $1.9M fine over Clairton Coke Works emissions
It’s the third-largest penalty levied against U.S. Steel’s Clairton Coke Works in the past five years.
The fines stem from the 123-year-old plant violating rules for “uncontrolled pushes” 362 times between March 16, 2022, and Dec. 31, 2023, according to the Allegheny County Health Department.
• Fire hits Nate’s Reptile Rescue in South Park
At least one alligator and several turtles were pulled from a fire Monday afternoon at Nate’s Reptile Rescue in South Park.
There were about 100 animals inside, Allegheny County Police posted on the X social media platform.
Several of the animals died in the fire, but an exact number wasn’t known, police said.
•Willie Nelson, Bob Dylan, John Mellencamp are coming to town
A trio of Rock and Roll Hall of Famers will headline this year’s Outlaw Music Festival, which will visit the Pittsburgh area in September.
Willie Nelson & Family will be joined by Bob Dylan and John Mellencamp for this year’s festival stop, set for Sept. 14 at the Pavilion at Star Lake.
The trio first toured together in 2009, including a stop on July 13, 2009, at Consol Energy Park in Washington, Pa.
