• Carnegie Science Center changing name after receiving $65M gift
Daniel G. Kamin built his own telescope when he was a teenager — he was fascinated with space.
That passion has remained with him more than six decades later, and now he wants to fuel that same energy in others.
That’s a reason he and his wife, Carole L. Kamin, gifted a historic $65 million to the Carnegie Museum’s Carnegie Science Center on Pittsburgh’s North Shore.
The donation was announced Tuesday at a media event. The Carnegie will change the signage to read: The Daniel G. and Carole L. Kamin Science Center.

Harrison native and mega-Steelers fan Tom Henschel isn’t letting recent physical ailments deter him from continuing his streak of attending every Super Bowl.
“It’s my 58th year going to a Super Bowl,” Henschel said Tuesday.
• Police investigating fatal officer-involved shooting in South Side Slopes
Officials said Pittsburgh police were dispatched to the 1900 block of Huron Street for a ShotSpotter notification at 1:38 a.m.
• Man killed when car goes into creek in Harmar
A man was killed Wednesday morning when his car rolled over and into a creek in Harmar.
The car, a Tesla, apparently sped across the Primanti Brothers parking lot and rolled over before entering the creek shortly after 8 a.m., according to Harmar police.
• New report sees a boost in undergraduate enrollment on college campuses
Research released Wednesday suggests that fall undergraduate enrollment on college campuses across most of the nation rose for the first time since before the covid-19 pandemic, ending a slump that has strained many institutions.
But while more than two-thirds of states saw overall gains, others — including Pennsylvania — continued as a whole to decline.
