Trib Total Media is taking a bold step to engage the city’s residents in shaping local news.

In response to the evolving media landscape, the Tribune-Review is launching a Pittsburgh Community Advisory Panel, a new initiative designed to ensure that journalism in the region reflects the full diversity and vibrancy of Pittsburgh.

The panel is a cornerstone of the Trib’s newly announced weekend print edition, focused on Pittsburgh and Allegheny County.

“Local journalism thrives when it reflects the people it serves,” said Jennifer Bertetto, Trib Total Media president and CEO. “This panel is our commitment to building a newsroom that listens, learns and grows with the community.”

The panel is seeking students, business owners, community advocates and leaders across the city. Members will serve an 18-month term, contributing to meaningful coverage and providing insight on the stories that matter most to their neighborhoods.

Panelists will meet via Zoom every other month, attend two in-person strategy sessions annually and maintain a visible presence within their communities. Members also will have opportunities to share their perspectives through op-eds and guest columns reaching more than 3.5 million monthly readers.

Residents who want to play a direct role in shaping local journalism are encouraged to apply.

“This panel gives us a chance to step outside the newsroom and really listen,” said Executive Editor Luis Fabregas. “It’s about connecting with neighborhoods, learning what matters to people, and making our journalism stronger and more inclusive.”

To be considered for the advisory board, people must meet the following requirements: must be 18 or older; reside or work in Allegheny County; commit to attending two-in person meetings a year and six virtual meetings; demonstrate strong networking skills; willingness to submit op-eds; show deep, vested interests in the region with strong support and commitment to community journalism.
