Authorities have ruled a Troy Hill woman’s death last week was a homicide.

Patricia Kachinko, 73, died June 24 in an area hospital, the Allegheny County Medical Examiner’s Office said Wednesday. Her cause of death was respiratory complication from blunt force trauma of the chest.

Pittsburgh police are investigating, the medical examiner’s office said.

A police spokeswoman did not respond to phone calls or emails Wednesday seeking comment.

Kachinko died after some type of incident last month in the city’s Troy Hill neighborhood, records from the medical examiner show.

Details remained sparse Wednesday, but information from the medical examiner’s office indicates whatever led to Kachinko’s death occurred on June 2 shortly before 6:30 p.m. in the 1000 block of Ley Street.

It was unclear if the incident happened at Kachinko’s home. County real estate records show she lived in the 1000 block of Ley Street.

An Allegheny County spokeswoman referred all questions about Kachinko’s death to Pittsburgh police.

Kachinko was one of 11 homicide victims in Allegheny County in June, two of whom died in Pittsburgh, records show.

Kachinko was married and had two children and three grandchildren, according to an obituary posted online.

She was buried Tuesday in a private ceremony, according to the Stephen M. Brady Funeral Inc, which handled her arrangements.

Her family did not respond Wednesday to an inquiry made through the funeral home.
