A Turtle Creek man accused of using stolen credit cards to buy items at various retail stablishments was found guilty of identity theft and other charges in federal court.
Iklas Davis, 41, was tried before U.S. District Judge J. Nicholas Ranjan in Pittsburgh.
A jury deliberated for about an hour before it returned a guilty verdict on one count each of conspiracy, unauthorized devices and aggravated identity theft, federal authorities announced Thursday.
Davis was indicted in January 2020.
Federal authorities said the Pittsburgh Bureau of Police and the Allegheny County Police investigated a series of vehicles break-ins at various entertainment venues including the Boyce Park Wave Pool and the Pittsburgh Zoo in the summer of 2017.
The victims reported the theft of their credit cards and identification and the use of the credit cards, typically on the same day as the break-ins occurred.
Authorities said investigators secured video of Davis using and attempting to use some of the stolen credit cards at various businesses.
Accomplice nabbed earlier
The investigation also revealed Terry Porterfield, 46, of Pittsburgh broke into the vehicles and then transferred the credit cards to Davis and others, who then used the credit cards to purchase, primarily, gift cards and electronic equipment.
Porterfield pleaded guilty to his part of the scheme in December 2019.
Davis was remanded back into custody of the U.S. Marshals Service pending sentencing.
The U.S. Secret Service, Pittsburgh Bureau of Police and the Allegheny County Police conducted the investigation that led to Davis’ prosecution.
