Unauthorized drone causes ground stoppage at Pittsburgh International Airport
An unauthorized drone was reported near Pittsburgh International Airport on Monday and, as a result, caused a temporary ground stoppage.
The airport’s air traffic control tower issued the temporary stop, according to airport spokesperson Bob Kerlik. The stop was lifted around noon, about 30 minutes after the drone was first reported.
“Drones can pose safety risks to aviation and unauthorized operators in protected airspace can be fined or face charges,” Kerlik said in a statement.
Law enforcement is investigating the incident.
Operations of the airport terminals remain unaffected, Kerlik said.
