A Uniontown woman accused of driving under the influence of alcohol and marijuana has been charged with homicide while DUI by vehicle after Pittsburgh police say she killed a man in Greenfield in March.

Maria D. Davis, 22, surrendered to deputies with the Allegheny County Sheriff’s Office at 8:30 a.m. on Thursday at the Municipal Courts Building near Downtown.

According to the criminal complaint, around 12:30 a.m. on March 11, police were called to Beechwood Boulevard for a two-vehicle crash.

Police said a black Hyundai sedan was traveling north on Beechwood toward Squirrel Hill when it reportedly crossed the center lines, striking a silver Toyota Prius head-on.

Abdulaziz Sharibbaev, who was driving the Prius, had to be extricated by medics.

He was taken to a local hospital where he died on March 16. He was 33 years old.

Both Davis and her passenger were transported to local hospitals. The passenger sustained facial injuries and fractures from being thrown into the windshield.

While at the hospital, Davis was interviewed by police, who said in the criminal complaint that they smelled alcohol on her breath. She told them she had a few shots in a hotel room with friends, police said.

A test showed that Davis’ blood alcohol concentration was 0.163%, more than twice the legal limit for driving in Pennsylvania of 0.08%.

Test results also showed she had marijuana in her blood, police said.

In addition to the blood test result, the criminal complaint also cites the report from Davis’ event data recorder in her car.

That report showed neither Davis nor her passenger were wearing seat belts, and the vehicle was traveling at a maximum speed of 46.6 mph in the time leading up to the crash. The speed limit in that area is 25 mph.

The recorder showed Davis did not apply the brakes during the five seconds leading up the crash, the complaint said.

She also did not turn the steering wheel, according to the complaint.

“The driver did not react to the right curve of the roadway and entered into the opposing traffic lane,” police said.

In addition to homicide by vehicle, Davis is charged with aggravated assault while driving under the influence, DUI, reckless driving, careless driving and speeding.
