Pittsburgh police investigate the area surrounding a home on Vancroft Street in the city’s Hill District after guns were found in a home not far from University Prep on Tuesday, March 29, 2022.

A school in Pittsburgh Hill District was on modified lockdown Tuesday after police found guns in an abandoned home nearby, officials said.

Ebony Pugh, a spokeswoman for Pittsburgh Public Schools, said the guns were found at a home on Vancroft Street, not far from University Prep, a grade 6-12 school on Centre Avenue.

A modified lockdown means no one is allowed inside the school building or on the property unless they have a scheduled appointment.
