Notice to patrons

Northern Tier Library’s Richland and Pine locations will be closed July 4 and 5 to mark the Independence Day holiday.

NORTHERN TIER LIBRARY

Northland Tier Library is located at 4015 Dickey Road in Richland. Hours are 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. Mondays through Wednesdays, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Thursdays through Saturdays and closed Sundays. The library can be reached at 724-449-2665 or northerntierlibrary.org. Here are some upcoming programs:

Adult Summer Learning: Every Wednesday through July 30

In-person programming meets at 6:30 p.m., and take-home kits can be picked up inside the library’s front lobby after noon. Here is the remaining lineup: June 25, Diamond Art Magnets, a project to bling out your fridge; July 2, Coloring Take-Home Kit, mindful coloring to help reduce stress and anxiety; July 9, Bridget’s Book Club, discussion of “Slow Dance” by Rainbow Rowell, a story about second chance love; July 16, Paper Book Vase, repurpose an old book (13 and older); July 23, Embroidery Take-Home Kit, your choice of a tiny terrarium for beginners or a more challenging floral pattern; and July 30, Watercolor Art, make an abstract art piece (13 and older). Advance registration is required for all of the programs except Bridget’s Book Club.

2026 Property Assessments: 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. June 23

Find out how the Allegheny County Property Assessment process works. For 2026, property assessment appeals have to be filed between July 1 and Sept. 2. Learn about the hearing process, “newcomers tax,” common level ratios and the possibility of a countywide reassessment. Registration is required.

Teen Cookie Club: 3 to 4 p.m. June 27

Teens 12 and older will make chocolate stained-glass cookies. Participants will explore different ways to add chromaticity to cookies while learning the basics of baking and earning a tasty treat. Mark your calendars: On July 11, we will make psychedelic tie-dye cookies; on July 25, nature cookies will be the treat.

STEAM Outside: 3 to 4:30 p.m. Wednesdays through July 30

Everyone age 6 through adult are invited to dabble in a variety of STEAM activities each Wednesday on the library’s side lawn, weather permitting. Registration is required. June 18: clay modeling; June 25: mosaics using tile and grout; July 2: Japanese technique of paper marbling; July 9, bring a T-shirt and learn screen printing; July 16, Shrinky Dinks; July 23, nail and string art; and July 30: wax art using melted crayons.

In-person Maker Mondays: 3 to 5 p.m. July 7 and 21

Tweens and teens 11-18 can stop by for in-person programming in our makerspace. Registration is required. July 7 is Beaded Suncatchers, and July 21 will be decorating a mini planter with paint markers.

Maker Mondays Take-Home Kit: All day July 14 and 28

Tweens and teens 11-18 can stop by during regular library hours and pick up a take-home kit. Call the library to reserve one. The July 14 kit is a summery seashell keychain; on July 28, it’s a paper craft celestial garland accented with shiny stars.

Tuesday Exploration: 3 to 4 p.m. Tuesdays

Guests from a variety of places will lead programs for children 6 and older. Registration is required. Upcoming sessions include June 17, explore the outside world with Tree Pittsburgh; June 24 (all ages), learn about the ruby throated hummingbird through the Latodami Nature Center; July 1, enjoy a hands-on demonstration and colorful science with PPG Science Discovery; July 8 (all ages), learn about ice cream making, take home a craft and enjoy free samples from Graeter’s Ice Cream; July 15 and 29, hammer together a Field Goal Build-It Kit with Home Depot; July 22, making a White Board Build-It Kit with Home Depot.

Taste the (Beer and Cheese) Rainbow: 5:30 p.m. July 18

Adults 21 and older are invited to enjoy a variety of beer styles while admiring their various colorations. The selections will be paired with a colorful array of cheeses, breads, spreads and pickles. Registration is required by July 7. A minimum of 16 participants is required to hold the program. The cost is $40 per person.

PINE CENTER

This satellite branch of Northland Tier Library is located in the Pine Community Center at 100 Pine Park Drive in Pine. Hours are 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Mondays and Wednesdays; 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. Thursdays; 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturdays; and closed Tuesdays, Fridays and Sundays. Here are some upcoming programs:

Family Storytime: 11 a.m. every Friday through Aug. 1

This story time for children of all ages will feature singing, moving, reading and practicing rhymes. A one-time registration is required for the series of story times, but you don’t have to attend every session.

Summer StoryWalk: All summer

Enjoy nature while growing family literacy with our StoryWalk locations at Hance Elementary School, Bakerstown Park and the Pine Community Center. The StoryWalk Project was created by Anne Ferguson and developed in collaboration with the Kellogg-Hubbard Library in Montpelier, Vt.

Popsicle Stick Art Quilt: All summer

Patrons of the Pine branch are invited to decorate a popsicle stick every time they visit and add it to our special art installation.

These Books Were Made for Walking: 8:30 to 9:30 a.m. July 1, 8, 15, 22 and 29

The library is excited to announce its new summer walking club for all ages. Each Tuesday morning, we’ll gather near the book drop at the entrance to the Pine Township Community Center. From there, we’ll take a leisurely stroll around the park talking about life, literature and the pursuit of happiness. No registration is required.
