One person was taken to a hospital after a pickup was hit by a train in Brackenridge on Friday night, according to borough Mayor Lindsay Fraser.

A Norfolk Southern train hit the pickup at the railroad crossing at Morgan Street and Sixth Avenue around 10 p.m. Brackenridge police responded immediately, Fraser said.

The driver, who has not been identified, was the only person in the pickup. The driver suffered injuries that were not life-threatening and was taken to a hospital by Eureka Fire and Rescue, Fraser said.

The train was a local train that typically operates between Pitcairn and Tarentum, Norfolk Southern spokesperson Connor Spielmaker said.

The company’s trains are operated by two-person crews. Spielmaker could not say if they were hurt.

Fraser said borough police investigated and handed information over to Norfolk Southern’s police department, which also responded, Fraser said.

“The departments will coordinate on any additional enforcement actions, which are pending at this time,” she said.
