A West Deer man suffered minor injuries Thursday when his car crashed into a Glassmere Fuel Service truck in Fawn, police Chief Tim Mayberry said.

Mayberry said the crash happened around 12:15 p.m. in the area of 1220 Millerstown Road.

Video from the truck helped police determine what happened, but the crash remains under investigation, Mayberry said.

Mayberry said Derrick Maruski, 47, was driving west on Millerstown when he came around a bend and went into the path of the oncoming truck driven by Christopher Green, 41, of Vandergrift.

Green was unable to avoid the collision, which Mayberry described as a sideswipe.

The impact destroyed the left front fender of Maruski’s car, tearing the wheel and suspension off, photographs from the scene showed.

Maruski had minor injuries to his chest and was taken by ambulance to Allegheny Valley Hospital in Harrison. His 12-year-old daughter, who was in the front passenger seat, was not hurt, Mayberry said.

Green was not hurt.

Both vehicles had to be towed. The collision caused substantial damage to the truck’s fuel tank. Mayberry said there was a diesel spill “all over the road,” but could not say how much had spilled.

Millerstown was closed for at least an hour while the crash was cleared and the spill cleaned up.
