A man suffered cuts while escaping from a Saturday evening fire that damaged his Plum apartment.
The man broke out a front window of his first-floor apartment and cut his hands on the glass while climbing through to safety, according to Holiday Park Fire Chief James Sims. The man was taken to a local hospital for treatment.
Multiple fire departments responded to the blaze, which was reported at about 6:20 p.m. in a four-apartment building in the 700 block of Pine Valley Drive.
The Allegheny County Fire Marshal’s Office is investigating the cause of the fire.
It’s thought to have started in the kitchen, where damage was extensive, Sims said.
The fire was “out within nine minutes of our arrival,” Sims said.
There was no damage to the three other apartments, he said Sunday afternoon, noting the building owner and borough officials were working to restore power so the residents could return.
