At least one person was injured in a two-vehicle crash on Freeport Road in Harrison Sunday afternoon.

The crash at 5300 Freeport Road, at the Harrison Hills fire station, was reported around 3:30 p.m. The location is about midway between Highlands Mall and the Route 908 intersection.

According to Harrison police at the scene, a man driving a car was entering Freeport Road from Altermoor Drive, turning left toward Freeport. A pickup, also driven by a man, was heading south toward Tarentum on Freeport Road.

Each driver was alone in their vehicle, police said.

The circumstances of the crash arepreliminary and under investigation.

The car crashed head-on into a utility pole outside the fire hall, while the pickup crashed into one of the hall’s five garage doors.

The pickup caught fire, according to Harrison Hills. An off-duty firefighter from Freeport Fire-EMS was able to get inside the station and put out the fire.

The driver of the car was taken by ambulance to Allegheny General Hospital in Pittsburgh, police said. He was not believed to be severely injured.

The pickup driver’s condition was not known. According to Harrison Hills, only the driver of the car was taken to a hospital.

A West Penn Power crew arrived to tend to the pole, which was cracked from the impact.

Harrison Hills did not release any information about damage to its building. A representative of the fire department could not be reached for comment on whether the damage had affected its ability to operate.

An Allegheny County 911 supervisor said Harrison Hills had not marked itself as out of service, meaning it was still capable of answering calls Sunday night.
