One person was taken to a hospital after a fire broke out Monday night above The Buzz smoothie bar in Tarentum.
The call came in about 10 p.m. Monday, said Robert Stoebener, president of Highland Hose Volunteer Fire Company. It took crews about two hours to extinguish the blaze, he said.
It’s unclear what led to the fire, Stoebener said. The Allegheny County Fire Marshal’s Office is investigating.
The fire broke out in the apartments above the business at 312 E. Sixth Ave. At least five apartments and the business sustained smoke or water damage from the fire, Stoebener said. The Buzz currently is closed.
Damage was “pretty severe” in one of the apartments, he said.
Stoebener believed the person taken to the hospital was a resident in one of the apartments. He did not have an update on their condition.
It’s also unclear whether anyone was displaced as a result of the fire.
All three Tarentum fire companies, as well as Lower Burrell and Pioneer Hose in Brackenridge, responded to the blaze.
“It’s great to see all those departments working together,” Stoebener said. “I appreciate the support and the job they did.”
