A $2.4 million water line project along Bull Creek Road in Fawn is expected to alleviate frequent line breaks that have become an issue for Fawn-Frazer Water Authority.

The authority plans renovation and construction this year on an original line that stretches from its connection in Brackenridge and runs for miles underneath and in the berm of Bull Creek Road.

Chairman Ed Adams said the lines were covered with fill when construction on the Route 28 interchange at Tarentum was done in the 1970s.

“Our line was covered with concrete berm,” Adams said. “We’ve had quite a few breaks in the last few years, and the repairs and restoration are expensive. We’re trying to get at least a 1-mile section more stable.”

Authority members will open contract bids for the project Friday at the office on Donnellville Road.

The authority was awarded a $1.65 million state grant to help pay for construction. The money comes from the Commonwealth Finance Authority’s H2O PA program.

Fawn-Frazer will be responsible for an $825,000 match.

Adams said it would be cost-prohibitive to do the whole stretch of Bull Creek.

The project will require single-lane restrictions, but Adams doesn’t expect entire sections of the road to be closed.

Fawn-Frazer Water Authority serves about 1,800 customers in the two townships.
