A man and a woman were found dead in a Springdale apartment Monday, according to Allegheny County Police.

Police said their bodies were discovered shortly after 3:30 p.m. in the 1000 block of Pittsburgh Street. They suffered apparent gunshot wounds, police said.

The police scene extended to Hoeveler Street, which was taped off for a block from its intersection with Pittsburgh Street.

“An individual who was doing a maintenance check on the apartment (found the bodies),” county police Sgt. Todd Dolfi said at the scene Monday evening. “We’re in the infancy of our investigation.”

Dolfi could not confirm the relationship between the man and woman found inside.

“We can’t say at this time,” said Dolfi as other officers stood outside the residence. “We’ll be waiting on the Medical Examiner’s Office to make their final decision (before releasing more information).”

Ricky Silva, 61, lives in an apartment where the deaths occurred. Silva said the building has five apartments in it.

He said he left to go buy air conditioners around 3:30 p.m. He came home to police tape and authorities swarming the area.

“I can’t believe it. I’m in shock. The loss of life,” Silva said.

As of 6 p.m., Silva had not been allowed back inside to access his apartment and said police had told him nothing.

He described the area as nice with friendly people and said he “hated” this happening.
