Dave Gatty (left) and Frank Weissert are running for a seat on the Allegheny Township board of supervisors.

The two candidates running for Allegheny Township supervisor say they want to build on the municipality’s business growth and development.

Democrat Dave Gatty, 71, and Republican Frank Weissert, 48, are seeking a six-year term on the Allegheny Township board of supervisors.

Supervisor Michael Korns didn’t seek reelection.

Gatty, a retired research technologist from PPG Industries in Monroeville, said he attended several township meetings and believes the township is trending upward.

“I put my hat in there, and I feel with my personality, I can keep them moving forward and keep going in a positive direction,” Gatty said.

“We’ve got an excellent police force, and I want to keep them going. The more people and development we get, it brings in more money and keeps our area strong.”

Weissert, who works in sales for Pittsburgh Tire Service, said strengths he’d bring to the board are communication and organization.

“My priority would be to get everyone in the township to work together on all projects,” Weissert said. “It’s a tough go, but I want to show people how fortunate we are, to see what we have.

“There doesn’t have to be division.”

Weissert said he’d have a better idea of how to address issues once in office and can learn all the facts. He said he’d like to grow community events and business development.

“They have a nice base to build on to,” he said. “It’s going in the right direction, and I want to keep it going that way.”

Gatty said important issues including stormwater and road paving projects are being worked on currently. He said his strengths are being honest and “a strong Christian man.”

“If I’m elected, I’ll do the best I can to keep us moving forward in a positive direction,” Gatty said.
