Two people were taken to hospitals Thursday after a vehicle crashed into a bank building in downtown New Kensington.
Crews were dispatched at 2:13 p.m. for reports of a Ford Ranger pickup truck that slammed into the First National Bank, 2 Kensington Square.
“The gentleman jumped the sidewalk and drove into the front part of the bank,” fire Chief Ed Saliba Jr. said.
The driver was taken to a hospital for observation, Saliba said, and a customer inside the bank was taken to a hospital for ankle pain. The injuries weren’t considered life-threatening, he said.
Saliba said it’s unclear what led to the crash. The driver got out of his vehicle through the passenger-side door and was alert and talking to emergency personnel, Saliba said.
There was a “considerable amount” of damage to the bank, Saliba said. The truck was towed from the scene.
“I would imagine it’s going to be closed for a couple of days until they get everything squared away,” he said.
