New equipment will be installed at Lower Burrell’s Braeview Park this summer.

Residents in Lower Burrell’s Braeburn Heights neighborhood will welcome a new playground soon, as new equipment was delivered Wednesday at Braeview Park.

“They said, once it was dropped off, it would be two weeks for installation,” said City Manager Greg Primm.

“Once the installation is complete, there will be some finishing work done by our public works department. Then it will be open for business.”

City officials in September removed the former playground from the park, deeming it dangerous and citing sharp, rusted edges on equipment, the jungle gym on the verge of collapse and other tripping hazards. That equipment was estimated to be about 25 years old.

In May, council signed a $56,700 contract with Sports and Recreation Associates for the new equipment.

The new equipment is slated to have a swing set, slides, climbing walls and ladders, according to drafts.
