Allegheny Township: trick-or-treat, 6 to 8 p.m. Oct. 31.

East Deer: trunk-or-treat, 5 to 7 p.m. Oct. 29 in East Deer Memorial Park. A movie suitable for children will screened and there will be a small parade. Gates open at 4:30 p.m. for vehicles. Trick-or-treat, 6 to 8 p.m. Oct. 31.

East Vandergrift: parade, 6 p.m. Oct. 26 on Quay Street. Trick-or-treat, 6 to 8 p.m. Oct. 31.

Frazer: trick-or-treat, 6 to 8 p.m. Oct. 31.

Freeport: parade, Oct. 25. Registration will begin at 6 p.m. at the fire hall, and the parade will begin at 7. There will be no advance number pick-ups. The parade starts at the fire hall and proceeds down Fourth Street to Riverside Drive, past the high-rise, up Fifth Street. Winners will be announced at 8:30 p.m. Rain date: Oct. 26. Trick-or-treat: 6 to 8 p.m. Oct. 31.

Harmar: trick-or-treat, 6 to 8 p.m. Oct. 31.

Activities open to the public

Allegheny Valley

Allegheny Valley-area house decorating contest. Voting is open. The winner will be announced Oct. 20 and will receive two tickets to the Haunted Mine and a $50 gift certificate to Tastefully Blessed in Springdale. Sponsored by Realtor Stephanie Robinson. Bethel Township

Outdoor Discovery Center Halloween Party, 6 p.m. Oct. 26 at the center, 142 Kerr Road. Free. Elementary school-age children will make nature-themed crafts and enjoy treats. Reservations required. Reservations: armstrong center.org/odc-events

Brackenridge

Trunk-or-treat, 2 to 4 p.m. Oct. 29 at Trinity United Methodist Church, 847 10th Ave. Park in the upper lot at the church and pass out candy. Decorating optional. Afterward there will be a fall party with pizza, drinks, snacks, games and prizes.

Buffalo Township

Trunk-or-treat and haunted house, Oct. 21 at Freeport Area High School, 625 S. Pike Road, Buffalo Township. The trunk-or-treat will be from 6 to 8 p.m., and the haunted house will be from 6 to 10 p.m. There will be a pumpkin path, vendors, music and crafts.

• Audubon Society Creatures of the Night, Oct. 20 at Buffalo Creek Nature Park, 154 Monroe Road. Sessions are at 6:30, 7 and 7:30 p.m. Come in costume to walk the trails and meet nonscary costumed creatures who will tell the story of their life. Rain or shine. Cost: $10; members, $6; free for 2 and younger. Reservations: aswp.org or 412-963-6100.

Fall Festival, 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Oct. 22 at W.L. Roenigk Inc., 798 Ekastown Road. There will be vehicles to explore, food, games, bounce houses, face painting, pumpkin decorating and prizes. Campfire Ghost Stories, 7 p.m. Oct. 28 at the Yakaon shelter in Harrison Hills Park, Harrison. Wear a costume for a chance to win a prize. Bring a chair or blanket. Sponsored by the Allegheny County Parks Department.

Local Ghostly Tales, 6 p.m. Oct. 17 as part of the The Who Knew? series at Community Library of Allegheny Valley, 1522 Broadview Blvd. learn about local ghost tales with guest speaker and Tribune-Review contributing writer Ray Rieser. Reservations required. Reservations: 724-226-3491.

Teen Paint Workshop: Dia De Los Muertos Sugar Skull, 5 to 6:30 p.m. Oct. 30 at Community Library of Allegheny Valley, 1522 Broadview Blvd., Harrison. Allegheny County Parks Department free trunk-or-treat car cruise, 2 to 4 p.m. Oct. 22 in the parking lot of the Hartwood Acres Park Amphitheater. Halloween Movies in the Park, 6:30 p.m. Oct. 27 on the lawn of the Hartwood Mansion. Bring a blanket. The movie will be “Hocus Pocus,” rated PG.

Kiski Township

Haunted Trail, 6:30 to 9:30 p.m. Nov. 3 and 4 at Apollo Spring Church Sportsman’s Club, Route 56, Spring Church. Sponsored by Boy Scout Troop 589, there will be games, concessions and the haunted trail. Admission: $5.

Leechburg

Fall Festival, noon to 5 p.m. Oct. 21 in Riverfront Park, 70 Kiski Ave., behind Sprankle’s Neighborhood Market. There will be crafters, food trucks, a petting zoo, a magician and monster mash party for children. Sponsored by Leechburg Area Community Association.

Pumpkin Trail, 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Oct. 28 at businesses on Market Street. The trail will begin at Leechburg Public Library and end at the fire hall, where the fire department will serve hot dogs. Parking available at the fire hall.

Masquerade Ball, 7 to 11 p.m. Oct. 28 at the Marconi Club, 135 River Ave. Cost: $20 each; $30 per couple. Table reservations for six or more tickets will be sold for $10. Must be 21 to attend. There will be appetizers, music by The Mixmaster Mike Kepics, cash bar, basket raffle, 50-50 and prizes. This year’s theme will be Mardi Gras. Tickets: Leechburg Public Library, 139 Market St.

Lower Burrell

Trunk-or-treat, 5 to 7 p.m. Oct. 28 at the American Legion, 1100 Wildlife Lodge Road. Details: Suzann at 724-309-4568.

Trunk-or-treat, 3 to 5 p.m. Oct. 21 at Puckety Presbyterian Church, 1009 Puckety Church Road. There will be games and awards for the best decorated vehicle. Vehicle registration required by Oct. 15. Parking available in the Burrell High School parking lot. Registration: 724-339-1323.

Monroeville

Fall Fest, 5 to 7 p.m. Oct. 26 at CCAC Boyce Campus, 595 Beatty Road. There will be a trunk-or-treat, food trucks, children’s activities and a bounce house. Reservations required to host a trunk. Reservations and details: 724-325-6650 or mutter@ccac.edu.

New Kensington

Fall Festival, 2 to 6 p.m. Oct. 21 on Fifth Avenue. There will be an artisan market, pumpkin patch, trick-or-treating, food trucks and vendors. Come in costume.

Trick-or-treat at Animal Protectors, noon to 2 p.m. Oct. 21 at the shelter, 730 Church St. Children will trick-or-treat through the shelter and do pumpkin painting. Leashed dogs welcome on the shelter lawn. Cost: $4 per child; $10 per family.

Fall Party, 5 to 7 p.m. Oct. 25 at the Salvation Army, 255 Third St. There will be free food, activities and vendors. Costumes optional.

North Apollo

• Free community trunk-or-treat, 6 to 8 p.m. Oct. 25 in the parking lot of North Apollo Church of God, 507 20th St. Prizes will be awarded for the best decorated vehicle. Details: 724-765-0333.

Oakmont

Halloween Tours, Oct. 20, 21 and 27 at the Kerr Memorial Museum, 402 Delaware Ave. Tour the museum and learn how Halloween was celebrated in the Victorian Era. Reservations required. Cost: $35. Reservations: 412-826-9295, leave your name and telephone number.

Trunk-or-treat, 2 to 4 p.m. Oct. 22 at Oakmont United Methodist Church, 419 Maryland Ave.

O’Hara

• Fox Chapel Area High School National Honor Society Boo Bash, noon to 1:30 p.m. Oct. 28 at the high school, 611 Field Club Road, free for children in prekindergarten through third grade. There will be treats, games and prizes. Costumes encouraged. Donations of money; single-serve breakfast cereal; cans of soup, ravioli and spaghetti; peanut butter singles and jars; protein bars; macaroni and cheese; and snack packs will be accepted for the district’s Backpack for Hunger, Fox Families Care, Second Harvest and Roots of Faith programs. Parents must accompany their children, and children should bring a bag for treats. Park near the tennis courts and use the athletics/fox statue entrance.

Parks Township

Trunk ’N Treat, 6 p.m. Oct. 20 and 21 at Riverside Drive-In, River Road. The featured films will be “Hocus Pocus” at 7:45 p.m., “Haunted Mansion” at 9:45 p.m. Admission: $20 per vehicle required for the trunk and treat.

Saxonburg

Springdale

Sweet Outreach, 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Oct. 31 at Springdale Open Bible Church, 401 Colfax St. Treat bags with full-size candy bars will be handed out.

Tarentum

Boo Festival, 1 to 4 p.m. Oct. 28 in Riverview Memorial Park, First Avenue. There will be a sidewalk chalk art contest, food, crafters, hayrides, games and an obstacle course. Sponsored by the borough recreation board. Details: Carrie at 724-448-1470.

Free Halloween movie, 7 p.m. Oct. 26 at the Alle-Kiski Valley Historical Society and Museum, 224 E. Seventh Ave. Suitable for all ages. The museum will have trick-or-treat from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Oct. 31.
