Trick-or-Treat

Allegheny Township: 6 to 8 p.m. Oct. 31.

Apollo: 6 to 8 p.m. Oct. 31.

Arnold: 6 to 8 p.m. Oct. 31.

Avonmore: parade, trunk-or-treat and celebration, 5 p.m. Oct. 31 at the volunteer firehall. Awards will be given to the best decorated car, float and trunk-or-treat display. Trick-or-treat will be afterward.

Bell Township: 4 to 6 p.m. Oct. 25. Hot dogs and treat bags will be distributed at the firemen’s truck hall.

Brackenridge: 6 to 8 p.m. Oct. 31.

Cheswick: trick-or-treat, 6 to 8 p.m. Oct. 31.

East Deer: 6 to 8 p.m. Oct. 31. A trunk-or-treat will be from 3 to 6 p.m. Oct. 26 in Memorial Park, 700 Front St., Creighton.

Fawn: A trunk-or-treat will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Oct. 24 at Fawn Volunteer Fire Department No. 1 social hall. Trunk reservations are welcome. Reservations: fawnfireevents@gmail.com.

Frazer: 6 to 8 p.m. Oct. 31.

Freeport: 6 to 8 p.m. Oct. 31, subject to change. The parade will be at 7 p.m. Oct. 29. Lineup will begin at 6 p.m. Rain date: Oct. 30.

Harrison: 6 to 8 p.m. Oct. 31.

Leechburg: 6 to 8 p.m. Oct. 31. The parade will be at 7 p.m. Oct. 30. Lineup will be at the firehall and the parade will proceed up Second Street to Market Street, to First Street down Main Street to Third Street and back onto Market Street. Prizes will be awarded afterward at the firehall.

Lower Burrell: 6 to 8 p.m. Oct. 31.

New Kensington: 6 to 8 p.m. Oct. 31.

Springdale: 6 to 8 p.m. Oct. 31.

Tarentum: 6 to 8 p.m. Oct. 31.

Vandergrift: 6 to 8 p.m. Oct. 31. The parade will line up at 5 p.m. Oct. 29 at the Jackson Avenue gazebo. The procession will begin at 6 p.m. and end on Grant Avenue. Children 12 and younger will get a number for a treat bag and chance to win a cash prize.

Washington Township: trunk-or-treat for township children 12 and younger, 4 to 7 p.m. Oct. 25 at the township firehall, 4078 Route 66.Cash prizes for costumes and decorated trunks and free drinks and snacks. Sponsored by the Community Outreach Committee. Trunk reservations: washtwpvfcbingo@gmail.com.

West Leechburg: 6 to 8 p.m. Oct. 31.


Events open to the public:

Allegheny Township

• A fall festival and movie on the lawn will begin at 5 p.m. Oct. 10 at River Forest Golf Club, 130 Club House Drive. There will be hayrides, a scavenger hunt and kids’ crafts. Food and beverages will be sold. Bring a blanket for the 7 p.m. movie screening. Details: 724-295-2298.

Apollo

The Apollo Halloween Parade will be at 6 p.m. Oct. 27 in Apollo Plaza. There will be food trucks and vendors. Prizes will be awarded for floats, and cutest, scariest and most original costumes. Sponsored by the Apollo Borough Events Committee.

Avonmore

• Rinebolt’s Hell Hollow Haunted Walk will be from 8 to 10 p.m. Oct. 30, and 8 p.m. to midnight Oct. 31 and Nov. 1 at the Avonmore Canoe Launch, First Street. The tour will include dimly lit trails, uneven terrain, flashing lights, jump scares and horrifying scenes. Cost: $15; 14 and younger, $10. Proceeds benefit Avonmore Community Association.

Brackenridge

• Prospect Cemetery Historical Ghost Tours, every 10 minutes beginning at 6 p.m. Oct. 9 at the cemetery. Historical people from Tarentum and Brackenridge history will come to life and tell their stories. Appropriate for all ages. Bring a flashlight. Tickets: $10. Reservations required. Reservations: 724-224-4552, leave your name and telephone number. Proceeds are used toward the upkeep of the cemetery.

• Trunk-or-treat, 2 to 4 p.m. Oct. 25 at Trinity United Methodist Church, 847 10th Ave. Trunk participants welcome, decorating is optional. A fall party will be afterward in the church social hall with games, prizes and refreshments.

Buffalo Township

• Indoor Trick-or-treat and haunted house, 7 to 9 p.m. Oct. 25 at Freeport Area High School, 625 S. Pike Road, Buffalo Township. Haunted house admission: $5. There will be a pumpkin path, food, vendors, music and more. Sponsored by Freeport Kiwanis, and Freeport Area High School Key Club and Tri-M.

East Vandergrift

• East Vandergrift Riverside Fall Festival, 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Oct. 18 in Kiskiminetas River Park, 223 Elm St. There will be food, vendors, face painting, a bounce house, cornhole tournament and games. Little Miss Fall Princess will be crowned. Sponsored by the East Vandergrift Community Foundation.

Fox Chapel

• Audubon Society Creatures of the Night, at Beechwood Farms Nature Reserve, 614 Dorseyville Road. Sessions are at 6:30, 7 and 7:30 p.m. Oct. 17, 18, 24 and 25. Come in costume to walk the trails and meet non-scary costumed creatures who will tell the story of their life. Rain or shine. Cost: $15; members, $10; free for 2 and younger. Harmar

• Trunk-or-treat, 5 to 8 p.m. Oct. 25 at the Shrine Center Pavilion, 1877 Shriners Way. Sponsored by Daughters of the Nile and Pittsburgh Syria Shriners. Details: Amy, 702-496-6268.

Harrison

• Fall Festival, noon Oct. 11 at Guardian Angels Parish, Natrona Heights. Sponsored by the township recreation board, there will be a petting zoo, pumpkin decorating and fall crafts.

• Community Library of Allegheny Valley will sponsor family-friendly, not-too-spooky Halloween Hullabaloo from 5 to 7 p.m. Oct. 10 at the library, 1522 Broadview Blvd. Costumes are welcome and there will be a walk-thru Monster Manor, story time and craft. Used costumes will be available to purchase. Details: alleghenyvalleylibrary.org.

• Trunk-or-treat, 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Oct. 16 at Allegheny Valley Hospital, Carlisle Street. There will be food trucks, games, prizes and treats. Free admission.

• Campfire Ghost Stories, 7 p.m. Oct. 26 at the Yakaon Shelter in Harrison Hills Park, weather permitting. Free. Bring a chair or blanket. Wear a costume for a chance to win a prize. Sponsored by the Allegheny Parks Department.

• Free trunk-or-treat, 6 p.m. Oct. 31 in the parking lot of Natrona Heights Presbyterian Church, 1428 Broadview Blvd.

Leechburg

• Fall festival, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Oct. 11 in River Front Park. There will be crafters, a petting zoo and games. Sponsored by Leechburg Area Community Association.

• Halloween Party, sponsored by Leechburg Area Community Association, 6 to 11 p.m. Oct. 18 at the Marconi Club, 135 River Ave. There will be a cash bar, DJ, cookie table and costume prizes. Cost: $10. Tickets: 724-980-8345 or at Leechburg Public Library, 139 Market St.

Lower Burrell

• Puckety Presbyterian Church will host a community trunk-or-treat and bonfire from 5 to 7:30 p.m. Oct. 18 at the church, 1009 Puckety Church Road. Park in the high school lot. There will be games, crafts and food. Menu: hot dogs, hot chocolate, water and popcorn. To register your trunk to give out candy, call 724-339-1323. Trunk decorating encouraged, but not required.

• Halloween Cash Bash, Oct. 25 at the Lower Burrell Veterans of Foreign Wars, 1600 Wildlife Lodge Road. Doors open at 4 p.m. and dinner will be at 5 p.m. Sponsored by Animal Protectors of Allegheny Valley, the event will end at 8 p.m. Winners need not be present. Costumes welcome. Cost: $35 in advance; at the door, $40; includes buffet dinner, beer, snacks and a chance for prizes. Cash bar. Tickets: animalprotectors.net.

• Trunk-or-treat, noon to 2 p.m. Oct. 25 at Lower Burrell Volunteer Fire Company No. 3 EMS, 3255 Leechburg Road. There will be CPR overviews, EMS demonstrations and fire demonstrations.

New Kensington

• New Kensington Fall Festival, Oct. 18 in the downtown area of the city. There will be a farmers market and artisan vendors from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. and a pumpkin patch from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Children can stop in at the pumpkin patch to get a trick-or-treat bag to use at local businesses.

North Apollo

• Trunk-or-treat, 6 to 7:30 p.m. Oct. 29 at North Apollo Church of God, 507 20th St. Prizes will be awarded for best trunk décor. Details: 724-765-0333.

Oakmont

• Oakmont Carnegie Library and Oakmont Historical Society are sponsoring a do-it-yourself Mystery Walk through Oct. 31. Stop in at the library, 700 Allegheny River Blvd., and get a free booklet that guides you on a walking tour through the borough’s spookiest stories. Details: 412-828-9532.

• Oakmont Fall Festival, 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Oct. 25 on along Allegheny River Blvd. in the borough. Rain or shine. The Halloween parade will line up at 10:45 a.m. on Isabella Street behind Kwik Fill and step off at 11 a.m. Sponsored by the Oakmont Chamber of Commerce, there will be a DJ, vendors, basket auction, 50-50, costume contest, pet costume contest, inflatables, a pie-eating contest and games. Plum

• A trunk-or-treat will be at 5:30 p.m. Oct. 22 at the borough building, 2000 Mike Thomas Way. Each child attending should be registered at plumlibrary.org starting at 10 a.m. Oct. 6.

• Campfire Ghost Stories, 7 p.m. Oct. 25 at the Four Seasons Activity Center at Boyce Park, 901 Centerview Drive. Free. Bring a chair or blanket. Wear a costume for a chance to win a prize. Sponsored by the Allegheny Parks Department.

Saxonburg

• Witches Walk and Day Out, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Oct. 18 in downtown. Dress like a witch or in your favorite Halloween costume. There will be cackling and costume contests, prizes and food trucks.

South Buffalo

• Trunk-or-treat, 6 to 8 p.m. Oct. 25 at South Buffalo Volunteer Fire Department, 100 Firehall Road. Set up begins at 5 p.m. There will be free food and hot chocolate, hayrides and s’mores over the campfire.

Springdale

• Springdale Police Department free trunk-or-treat, 2 to 5 p.m. Oct. 25 at the borough parking lot, 325 School St. A costume parade will begin at 1 p.m. in the James Street circle by the high school. Hot dogs, snacks and drinks will be served. Rain or shine. Trunk participant registration required by Oct. 20. To register your trunk, visit tinyurl.com/yc843zkt.

Tarentum

• Boo Festival, 1 to 4 p.m. Oct. 18 in Riverview Memorial Park, First Avenue. There will be food, a craft fair, sidewalk chalk contest, hayrides, games, a face painter, obstacle course and a balloon artist.

• Daylight trunk-or-treat, 12:15 to 1:15 p.m. Oct. 26 in the parking lot of First United Presbyterian Church, 913 Lock St. Free lemonade and walking tacos will be served.

• Alle-Kiski Valley Historical Society will host a Night at the Museum from 6 to 8 p.m. Oct. 28 at the Heritage Museum, 224 E Seventh Ave. Cost: $5, 12 and younger accompanied by an adult, free. Costumes welcome. There will be a trick-or-treat, ghost story and the opportunity to meet famous people who shaped the A-K Valley. Reservations encouraged, but not required. Vandergrift

• The Casino Theater will host a screening of the movie, “Night of the Living Dead,” at 7 p.m. Oct. 18 at the theater. Costumes welcome. Doors open at 6:30 p.m. Seating is reserved. Cost: $5. Tickets: tinyurl.com/5amdhfav.

• The Casino Theater will offer an afternoon of classic Halloween cartoons including Casper the Friendly Ghost, Popeye and Mickey Mouse at 2 p.m. Oct. 26 at the theater. Donations will be accepted.

Washington Township

• Trunk-or-treat, 1 to 3 p.m. Oct. 25 in the parking lot of Quality Life Services, 151 Goodview Road. Free hot dogs will be served and Kona Ice will be available. Details: 724-329-5545.

• Free trunk-or-treat, 6 p.m. Oct. 29 in Kunkle Park. Sponsored by Cub Scout Pack 500.

West Deer
