A New Kensington man is accused of intentionally crashing his car into another vehicle with two young children inside and causing it to roll over.
The incident was reported at the intersection of Constitution Boulevard and Ewing Street about 11:30 p.m. Thursday, according Westmoreland County 911.
A woman driving the wrecked vehicle and her two children escaped injury but were trapped and had to be freed by first responders, said Arnold No. 1 Fire Chief Walter Gouza.
“The people in the vehicle were not hurt, but they were taken to the hospital by ambulance to be evaluated,” he said.
Arnold police reviewed video from security cameras and identified a license plate and ultimately a suspect, police Chief Eric Doutt said.
He said surveillance video appeared to show a red Chevy Malibu driven by Jamar Freshley, 32, of New Kensington intentionally crashing into another vehicle.
There is no audio, but it appears Freshley and the other driver had a verbal exchange before he fled the scene, Doutt said.
Doutt said investigators are trying to determine whether Freshley knew the other driver and, if so, the nature of their relationship.
Freshley faces a dozen felony charges, including aggravated assault, aggravated assault of a victim younger than 6, aggravated assault by vehicle, recklessly endangering another person and multiple traffic violations.
Police were scheduled to file formal charges Friday afternoon with District Judge Frank J. Pallone Jr., who issued a warrant for Freshley’s arrest.
Freshley already is scheduled to appear before Pallone on Dec. 2 for a preliminary hearing on a felony robbery charge filed by New Kensington police on Aug. 25, according to court records.
