A new Fawn supervisor is expected to be appointed Tuesday after a vote earlier this month ended in a tie.

Three residents — Carrie White, Shannon Rummel and Bryan Ward — applied to fill a vacancy created in June when Phillipi Smozski resigned.

A vote on July 8 ended in a draw, with supervisors Jay Swager and Paula Legge voting for White and supervisors Dan and Barb Selfridge voting for Rummel.

If an appointment is made Tuesday, that person will serve through the end of the year.

White and Rummel also will compete in the November general election for a six-year term. Both are on the ballot.

White has lived in the township since 1992.

“I want to be a voice of all the people, not just one section,” said White, who has worked in the medical field for 40 years.

She works at Allegheny Valley Hospital in Harrison and is an EMS instructor for Indiana University of Pennsylvania. She also also is a water rescue technician for Lower Kiski EMS.

“I just want to help serve my community,” she said. “I want to see that the fire departments are properly funded and the police too.”

Rummel, who owns a landscaping business in the township, said she hopes to make positive changes in the community.

She is a firefighter at Fawn Volunteer Fire Department No. 1, as well as Citizens Hose in Harrison.

She also serves on the township’s sewer authority.

“I have been dedicated to serving our community for over a decade,” Rummel said in an online post. “We can achieve great things and create a better future for all residents of Fawn.”
