A suspected drunken driver allegedly drove into oncoming traffic in Harmar — right at the police car summoned to look for her.
Police say Michele Sweet, 52, of West Deer, missed the patrol car driven by Officer Ryan Valasek that time, but not long afterward tried to ram it.
Valasek wasn’t hurt, according to police Chief Jason Domaratz.
The incident began at about 8:30 p.m. Saturday along Russellton Road.
Valasek wrote in arrest papers that the car driven by Sweet turned a corner from Gulf Lab Road and into the wrong lane.
The car went right toward his patrol car, even though it had its red emergency lights and siren on, but it missed and continued on.
According to her arrest papers, as Valasek started to pursue Sweet’s car, it drove over a barrier separating the opposing travel lanes. The car came to a rest on the Russellton Road bridge overpass.
When Sweet stopped momentarily, Valasek pulled his car in front of hers.
Sweet responded by driving into the police car, according to Valasek. She tried to continue to rev the engine, but the engine stalled.
Sweet is charged with drunken driving, fleeing and attempting to elude police, reckless driving and related charges.
Police drew a blood sample from Sweet but a blood-alcohol content test result wasn’t yet available.
Sweet’s attorney Michael M. Finley wasn’t available for comment.
