Allegheny County Police investigating death of 2-year-old New Kensington boy found in Harrison pool
Allegheny County Police are investigating after a 2-year-old boy died four days after being found in a swimming pool in Harrison.
The boy, Cassius Alexander Saulsgiver of New Kensington, died July 20, less than a month before his third birthday.
The incident happened July 16 at a home in the 100 block of Opal Court in the Natrona Heights section of the township, county police said.
According to county police, Harrison police went to the home shortly after noon that day in response to a call that a child had been found in an in-ground pool.
County police said their investigation found that the child had been left unattended for a brief time in the living room of the house. They said he was able to open a sliding glass door, which lead out to the pool.
County police said they would consult with the Allegheny County District Attorney’s Office when detectives complete their investigation.
Mike Manko, a spokesman for District Attorney Stephen A. Zappala Jr., said Tuesday the office had not been consulted yet.
The Allegheny County Medical Examiner ruled Saulsgiver’s death was an accidental drowning.
County police said Saulsgiver was ruled brain dead at UPMC Children’s Hospital and had been on life support until his family could make arrangements.
Visitation for the boy was held Saturday at the Ross G. Walker Funeral Home in New Kensington. Services were held there Sunday, according to his obituary.
Attempts to reach the family through the funeral home Tuesday were unsuccessful.
