Two hours after announcing additional covid-19 vaccination appointments for people age 65 and older in Allegheny County, the registration had been filled to capacity.
The newest appointments were made available on Feb. 9 and 13 by the county Health Department.
But at around 7 p.m., a Trib reporter logged into the county’s registration system and found that all slots had been filled.
Sixty-three time slots, from 8:45 a.m. to just before 4 p.m., were filled. It wasn’t clear whether there was more than one appointment set up for each time slot.
Even at the point when the county sent out the release for the slots around 5 p.m. Tuesday, the demand for vaccinations was great.
Three other days — Feb. 10, 11 and 12 — already had been filled for appointments for the shots at the Double Tree hotel in Monroeville, the health department said. Eligible health care workers and those returning for the second shot in the vaccination series also are receiving the vaccinations.
People 65 and older were eligible to register for appointments for the free vaccines.
