Allegheny County will seek public comment on a $750,000 project to create a shared pedestrian and bicycle path on Springhill Road in Harrison.

The Department of Public Works will take comments about the project online from June 15 to July 15, the county announced .

A project overview and video presentation will be available at alleghenycounty.us/springhillroad. Residents will be able to submit questions and concerns with an online form at the site.

The project involves creating a shared-use pedestrian and bicycle path on Springhill Road between North Canal Street and McWilliams Drive. According to the county, it is intended to improve traffic flow, safety and community connectivity, and is part of a plan to expand the Three Rivers Heritage Trail system.

Work on the project is expected to start in February and be finished by that August, said Brent Wasko, a spokesman for Allegheny County Public Works.

Construction is being paid for with a federal grant, while the county is paying for some design work, Wasko said.

Public Works or the project’s contractor, Michael Baker International, will respond to questions and concerns received, the county said.

Wasko said the county is not anticipating any comment to stop the project from happening.

“We’re asking for input,” he said. “We potentially make changes based on the input we receive.”

Public Works was going to host a public meeting on the project, but that is not possible because of covid-19 concerns, the county said in announcing the online effort.

Those needing help to learn about the project or provide feedback can contact Wasko at 412-350-2451 or by email at brent.wasko@alleghenycounty.us.
