Allegheny Township property owners will have longer to pay this year’s local real estate tax without a penalty.
Following suit with extensions granted by the Westmoreland County Commissioners, the township supervisors this week pushed back the deadline for paying the township property tax in full, without incurring a late penalty, to Dec. 31.
The supervisors also extended the deadline for early tax payments, at a discounted rate, from April 30 to Aug. 31.
The later deadlines are meant to provide some relief for taxpayers in light of disruptions related to the covid-19 pandemic.
Allegheny Township property owners pay taxes of 16.5 mills to the township and 21.49 mills to the county.
Latrobe and Unity Township are among other Westmoreland municipalities that have similarly eased tax deadlines.
