Come Sunday, Allegheny Township residents won’t have to leave town to have their pick of fresh produce, flowers, breads and more with the arrival of the season’s first Allegheny Township Farmers Market.

Sunday’s market — from 9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. — will be the first of five throughout the summer at the Kiski Garden Center, 991 S. Leechburg Hill Road. Other dates include June 23, July 21, Aug. 18 and Sept. 22, also from 9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.

The market will feature 20 local vendors, including a food truck and brewery, according to Allegheny Township Supervisor Jeff Pollick.

“I’ve lived here my entire life and I don’t think we’ve ever had a farmers market,” Pollock said. “I think (demand is) going to be very high.”

He has helped organize the event along with Kiski Garden Center co-owners Pat and Judi D’Amico.
