Allegheny Township splits with manager


Morabito: Township, Miller unable to agree on contract

Allegheny Township has parted ways with its manager.

Supervisors on Monday approved concluding its contract with Daniel Miller, whose term as township manager expired at the end of last year.

Miller started working as township manager in July 2024.

“The Board of Supervisors and Dan Miller went through the contract negotiation process,” said Chairman Jamie Morabito. “Due to the fact that neither side could come to an agreement, therefore, Mr. Miller’s contract was not renewed, which was agreeable to both parties.”

Miller’s last day was Friday.

Morabito declined to say what Miller was asking for in his contract.

Reached Monday, Miller said highlights of his tenure were adoption of a township solar ordinance, updated resident communication tools, necessitating a stormwater management fee to pay for DEP mandates, and providing budgetary and financial discipline to maintain existing services.

“I am thankful for the board’s support and the staff’s commitment, as well as Chairman Morabito’s belief in me,” Miller said. “I was honored to serve and humbled to help.”

Miller also said he had a respectful working relationship with township supervisors and supervisors.

“We fostered a collaborative and professional environment, emphasizing attention to detail, teamwork, accountability and public service,” Miller said.

Morabito and Supervisor Jeff Pollick spoke positively of Miller’s 18 months working for the township. Pollick said the split was amicable.

“I enjoyed working with (Miller), I learned a lot from him,” Pollick said. “But I also will say his contract proposal to the township as a business manager was one that I personally deemed unobtainable and too expensive for the township to continue.

“I am certain he will continue to do great things elsewhere, but as an elected official and as supervisor, I did not think the residents could afford that.”

Morabito said that, in the meantime, supervisors and office staff will handle township operations while searching for a manager. Jason Dailey, of Dailey Operation Consulting, will assist “on an as-needed basis.” Dailey was Allegheny Township’s interim manager before Miller was hired.

Asked why there was no public vote on Dailey’s role, Morabito said, “We did not contract with anybody. We are trying to do with just supervisors right now.

“If we do have to contract with him, then we will vote to contract with him.”

Morabito said Allegheny Township hopes to hire a manager as soon as possible. He said he has already heard interest in the position.
