Allegheny Valley School Board primary election advances 5 candidates
Tuesday’s primary races for Allegheny Valley School Board pushed forward five candidates, including the sole incumbent, to November’s general election, where four seats will be up for grabs.
Each of the seven primary candidates had cross-filed to run in both Democratic and Republican elections. In the end, voters selected three of the same candidates in each race.
In the Democratic primary, longtime incumbent and board President Nino Pollino emerged as the top vote-getter, securing 20.17% of 3,266 votes. He was followed by Rebecca Mundok with 19.1%, Colleen Crumb with 18.4% and Fred Derringer with 14.6%.
Among Republicans, Crumb secured the highest number of votes with 18.21% of 1,751. She was followed by Pollino with 17.36%, Paul Perriello with 16.16% and Derringer with 14.39%.
Lamara Arnone, who secured 11.05% of votes in the Democratic race and 10.73% in the Republican race, placed fifth in both elections. James Schiemer, who did not secure more than 10% of votes in either race, placed last among both parties.
Aside from Pollino, 65, a retired Cheswick resident, no other candidate has been previously elected to the school board. Crumb, however, filled a vacancy on the board in 2022 before losing her appointed seat in the 2023 election.
Crumb, 53, serves as a paralegal in Pittsburgh. She is a Republican and resident of Springdale.
Mundok, 43, works as an administrative assistant and cosmetologist. She is a Democrat and resident of Springdale Township.
Derringer, 49, is a sales manager. He’s a Democrat and resident of Cheswick.
Perriello, 39, serves as a Springdale police sergeant. He’s a Republican who lives in Springdale.
The 2025 general election will take place on Nov. 4.
