Oakmont is giving folks another chance to supply tasty treats to the goats that help keep weeds under control in the borough.

For the fourth year, the borough will collect Christmas trees for the furry friends at Capricious Goats LLC. The group of working goats, affectionately known as the “Munch Bunch,” were hired to help maintain overgrown vegetation along the borough’s Allegheny River bank.

The goats quickly became treasured members of the community, with people visiting them while they work along the riverbank for the past four summers. Different collections have been started to benefit the goats over the years, including the borough’s annual gourd collection and Christmas tree collection.

Starting Monday, folks can bring their Christmas trees to the dead-end of Ann Street.

The borough is looking for Concolor Firs, Frasers, or Blue Spruces. According to a Facebook post from the borough, the pine needles and bark of the trees are a healthy treat for the goats, containing properties that boost their digestive systems.

“After the trees are stripped, they will be chipped, and used as mulch, which is a fast way to replenish nutrients back to the earth,” the post said.

Capricious Goats LLC will pick up the trees. The borough asks that donated trees are free of tinsel and ornaments and have not been treated with chemicals. Wreaths and garland with wires will not be accepted.

Trees will be collected until Jan. 12.
