Freeport Council needs another member as of Monday.

That’s because Councilwoman Sara Conroy resigned from her post after about two years in office.

Conroy did not respond to TribLive requests for comment.

Council President Pete Wesolosky said Conroy planned to move out of the borough after accepting a new job.

The borough will advertise the vacant seat, which Wesolosky expects to be met with interest. The position likely will be filled during the borough’s April council meeting, he said.

Conroy’s resignation is the latest in a rapid-fire series of resignations and appointments in Freeport.

Wesolosky and Councilwoman Carrie Irvine were appointed to the body in January to fill seats left by the resignation of Councilwoman Lori Miller last November and a discrepancy on Freeport’s election ballot that didn’t list a term that needed to be filled. A two-year term on council was omitted, leaving the borough to fill the seat through appointment.

About a month later, council appointed former Borough Manager Zach Filous to fill the seat of Rick Fennell, who resigned to fill Freeport’s vacant tax collector position.

After council fills Conroy’s seat, however, Wesolosky said he thinks the borough will be in a good position for “long-term stability.”

Wesolosky said Conroy’s presence will be missed in the borough and on council.

“She’s very educated,” he said. “She brought a great lens and view to council.”

Council’s April meeting is slated for April 6.
