Apollo starts new citizens’ advisory board and public relations committee
The newest member of Apollo Borough Council is heading up a new citizens’ advisory board and public relations committee.
Apollo’s newest council member isn’t really so new. Jen Mullins was appointed to council late last year to fill the seat of Diane Bradshaw, who resigned in November shortly after winning another four-year term.
Mullins was sworn in Monday during borough council’s reorganization meeting. She won the four-year term in November after a write-in campaign.
Mullins will head up the new citizens advisory board and public relations committee.
She said she has made it her mission to promote community spirit in the borough by resurrecting events, such as the Christmas parade this year, and inventing some new ones.
“I’m looking to do more events throughout the year,” said Mullins.
She said she will start to get busy on 2020 events in the spring. But first, Mullins and council want to involve more residents in events and other issues.
Council has formed a new citizens’ advisory board to air their concerns and present ideas in a more accessible way, according to Mullins.
“We want residents to give their ideas and to have more access to council,” she said.
She is looking for residents who would like to sit on the advisory board. Details are forthcoming, she said.
In other business:
• During Monday’s reorganization meeting, Councilman John Steele was voted in as president. Former council president Dr. John Kautz didn’t run for another term and his seat expired at the end of 2019. Councilwoman Ashley Stiffy was voted in as vice president.
• Council is looking to fill a vacant two-year seat. Letters of interest should be sent by end of day Jan. 22 to Deanna Shupe, secretary/treasurer, Apollo Borough, P.O. Box 306, Apollo, Pa., 15613.
