Apple TV+ series films in New Kensington
“Parallax,” an Apple TV+ series, filmed a scene Wednesday at Allegheny Terminal off Industrial Boulevard in New Kensington.
Shelly Williams, Apple TV publicist, confirmed crews were “shooting in and around New Kensington” for “Parallax” on Wednesday but declined to disclose any other information.
Film equipment could also be seen Wednesday at the Central City Plaza and Barnes Street parking lots.
Earlier this year, Parallax filmed scenes in South Buffalo and Vandergrift.
“Parallax” is based on crime novels by Lars Kepler, a pseudonym used by Swedish writers Alexander and Alexandra Ahndoril, a husband-and-wife team.
The series follows a soldier-turned-detective who leaves Philadelphia for a quiet life in Western Pennsylvania. There, he becomes involved in an investigation into a local serial killer, according to Apple TV+.
It stars Liev Schreiber as Detective Jonah Lynn, Stephen Graham as serial killer Jurek Walter and Zazie Beetz as FBI agent Saga Bauer, who is Lynn’s adopted daughter.
The series is developed by A+E and Range Studios.
”It’s always kind of fun and exciting to have a show or movie film here,” said New Kensington Mayor Thomas Guzzo. “The really positive aspect is that while the crew and cast are here scouting, prepping, staging and eventually filming, they are frequenting our restaurants and businesses.
“There are over 140 people on the crew, and I spoke to several of them who were very complimentary of our restaurants.”
It’s not the first time a television show used New Kensington for filming.
In 2021, scenes for Amazon Studios’ “Sprung” were shot in New Kensington and Arnold. Crews shot at Valley Royal Court in New Kensington and Roy A. Hunt Elementary School and the former Della’s Frozen Custard, now Novo Cafe, both in Arnold.
“Sprung” took place during the covid-19 pandemic. It followed Jack, a man who spent more than 20 years in prison, as he moves in with his former prison girlfriend, his cellmate and his cellmate’s mom. The group decided to right some of society’s wrongs, targeting selfish people who took advantage of the pandemic for their own gain.
