An Armstrong County man already required to register as a sex offender is accused of raping a mentally disabled teenage girl last year, according to state police.

Dwayne Edward Hawk, 52, of Manor Township also is charged with statutory sexual assault, aggravated indecent assault and three related charges.

He was convicted in 1995 of involuntary deviate sexual intercourse — a first-degree felony — and ordered to register as a sex offender.

The recent rape and assaults happened in East Franklin, Manor and Plum Creek townships, according to police. In some cases, police said, Hawk told the girl’s relatives he was taking her fishing.

The girl has the mental capacity of an 8- or 10-year old, according to authorities. Hawk threatened to get rid of the girl’s cats if she told anyone about the assaults, police said.

Hawk was sent to the Armstrong County Jail in lieu of $100,000 bond pending a preliminary hearing before District Judge J. Gary DeComo. State records do not yet name an attorney for Hawk.
