Arnold has a new treasurer.

Council on Tuesday unanimously voted to appoint Deputy Treasurer Cathy Ozdany, 65, of Arnold, at a salary of $45,364.

She will fill the position vacated by Joseph Puet, who was hired as Cheswick’s borough secretary last year.

“She was the only one that applied for the position, but we were ecstatic that she wanted it because she has such a good background in business,” City Clerk Mario Bellavia said.

Ozdany has worked for the city for two years. She started as an assistant to Puet before she was appointed to deputy treasurer last May.

Ozdany vowed to bring her best self to her new role, which deals with city finances such tax collections and tax certifications.

”I love what I do. I love the people that I work with down here, also the people that come in to ask questions or to pay bills,” Ozdany said. “I’m just trying to do the best job that I can to serve the city in the best way possible. It’s a great city.”

Treasurer is a four-year elected position.

Ozdany will fill out the remainder of Puet’s term, which ends Dec. 31. She will have the option of running in the May primary and must win the November general election in order to keep the position.

She hasn’t decided if she would run.

Puet said Ozdany is a good choice for the position.

“Her technical skills and her customer service skills are superior,” Puet said. “I often told her her customer service skills are better than mine. I’m thrilled. I think Arnold will be well served.”
